Tooth extraction involves the compete removal of a tooth from its socket

While your natural teeth are essential for speaking, eating, and maintaining proper facial and jawbone structure, a tooth extraction is sometimes unavoidable. Extractions are often a last resort when a tooth is not able to be saved due to severe decay, trauma, crowding, or gum disease.

In Charlotte, NC, Dr. Linger offers minimally invasive microsurgical tooth extraction services, as well as several replacement options for missing teeth. Dr. Linger’s Method of Dentistry ™, using a Surgical Microscope and microsurgical instruments, provides a less traumatic tooth extraction which means less pain or discomfort after the procedure.

What to Expect During a Tooth Extraction

Dr. Linger’s Method of Dentistry ™ provides the maximum patient comfort during minimally invasive procedures. Before a tooth is extracted, a local anesthetic is administered to numb the area around the tooth.

Caring for the Socket After Extraction

For several hours following a tooth extraction, it’s normal to experience some bleeding. To help control the bleeding, you’ll be informed to bite down firmly on a gauze pad. If the extraction site is large, several stitches may be placed over the socket. If swelling occurs, an ice pack can be applied to the affected area for up to 10 minutes at a time.

Following a tooth extraction, it’s important to follow all post-procedure instructions provided. We will give written instructions of what to expect and what you should do for each of the first few days after surgery. Try to relax for at least 24 hours following the extraction, and try to limit any activities for the next 48 hours.

Make sure when choosing a doctor to perform your extractions that you choose one with advanced surgical skills. Dr. Linger has performed thousands of Microsurgery Procedures, and every day we perform some type of surgery including Extractions of Impacted teeth, Dental Implant Microsurgery, Periodontal Surgery and Bone Grafting Procedures.

Tooth extractions are very common dental procedures that are often necessary when a tooth becomes injured, diseased, or overcrowded. For more information about tooth extractions or to schedule an appointment, contact us today.
